BOLD AND COURAGEOUS, Part One
For the next few nuggets we will take a look at the topic of being bold and courageous for the Lord. We will take a look at many scriptures, ask some questions, and make some comments along the way.
One of our first questions is- why be bold and courageous? What are the reasons why we should want to be bold and courageous for God?
Why be bold and courageous?
2 Chron. 15:7-8
"But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work." Now when Asa heard these words and the prophecy which Azariah the son of Oded the prophet spoke, he took courage and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the Lord which was in front of the porch of the Lord.
1 Chron. 19:13
"Be strong, and let us show ourselves courageous for the sake of our people and for the cities of our God; and may the Lord do what is good in His sight."
Acts 14:3
Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands.
Acts 19:8
And he entered the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God.
Philip. 1:12-14
Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, [13] so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else, [14] and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.
Philip. 1:19-20
For I know that this shall turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, [20] according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I shall not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ shall even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
1 Thes. 2:2
but after we had already suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.
We walk in the courage of the Lord and in boldness in order to:
Take a stand against sin; for the sake of cities and people; to bear witness of God's grace by signs and wonders; to persuade others about God; build courage in others because of our courage; to exalt Christ; to speak the gospel in the midst of opposition.
In the next spiritual nugget we will explore how you obtain courage and boldness in the Lord.
