The Importance of Doctrine-Part Four
Controversial Truths of Scripture

For those who have just recently joined our Spiritual Nuggets mailing list, we would encourage you to read some of our previous nuggets so that you understand our perspective. We believe strongly in mercy, grace, and acceptance, but we also believe in the call to walk in holiness, to speak the truth in love, and to be faithful to all of the Word of God.

Before we speak on some of the controversial truths of scripture, we want to make it clear that we do not support or condone legalism, pharisaical spirit, or any other attitude that is not Christ like. At the same time we do not apologize for taking a strong stand on Biblical truths found in the Bible. Truth is truth whether culture, society, or you and I agree with it. And as Christians we acknowledge that the Bible is the final answer in regards to truth.

The reason why many truths of the Bible are controversial is that secular humanism, individualism, moral relativism, and what is politically correct have influenced the Church. Our desire is to share what the Bible teaches, not to be politically correct.

Scripture makes it very clear that fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, drunkards will not have eternal life.
1 Cor. 6:9-11
Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, [10] nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

This is not talking about those who struggle with these sins. It is talking about individuals who walk in these sins as a lifestyle. Notice it says fornicators, not someone who has struggled with fornication. Scripture says drunkards, not those who are struggling with drinking. There is a difference. It is a matter of the heart and whether the desire of the individual is to be set free from the sin that so easily entangles them.

To not preach on this is a disservice to someone that is living and the practicing the lifestyle and thinks they are born again. Their very salvation is at stake.

Scripture makes it clear that it is sin to marry an unbeliever.
2 Cor. 6:14
Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
Yet pastors are marrying Christians with unbelievers. Or worse yet, there are churches that are willing to marry homosexual 'couples'.

Scripture is very clear in regards to remarriage.
Matthew 19:9
"And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."
Yet many Christians are getting divorced for whatever reason and then getting remarried.

The principles of Scripture teach that racism is wrong.
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Yet there is still racism within the Body of Christ.

God is against the sin of abortion.
Proverbs 6:16-19
There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
[17] Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,
[18] A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,
[19] A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.
Yet there are those in the Church who support abortion no matter what excuse is given for doing it.

So what are we saying?
If a church teaches that abortion is ok, that homosexuality is ok, or that same sex marriages are ok, they are not preaching the word of God. They are teaching false doctrine.
If a church teaches that a person can live the lifestyle of a drunkard or adulterer, they are teaching false doctrine.

False doctrine may tickle the ears of those teaching and those listening, but it is wrong. The enemy uses false doctrine to deceive people for what purpose:

In other words to Steal, Kill, Destroy.
John 10:10
"The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly."
Walking in truth will bring abundant life. But you cannot have the abundant life if you do not know what is false. It is time for the Church to preach Scripture, not what is politically correct, so that people can be set free from sin.

We do not do people any favors by not telling them the truth. Our next nugget series is titled Sharing The Gospel.

As Christians we should never be ashamed or afraid to share what we believe. The truths of scripture are given to lead people into eternal life and to help us to have victory over sin, which provides us an abundant life. The key is share our beliefs in love and kindness without a "I am better than you" attitude. We will cover this topic in our nugget that will be called "Sharing the Gospel".
