Overview of 2021
Quick Summary The year 2021 was very good overall for Carmi and I. Not as good for Joshua but certainly better than the Fall of 2020 when Joshua had his tragic motorcycle crash. Last year we said that 2020 was overall one of the best years for us. 2021 is even better, just one of the reasons is we have Rich’s son Joshua living with us.
We moved to Greers Ferry, Arkansas in Sept 2019 and we have no regrets. We love being far away from the political craziness of the Pacific Northwest and the peacefulness we have here in Greers Ferry. In many ways the spirit of Christmas is here throughout the year.
Joshua’s Rehabilitation Progress
In February Rich traveled to Oregon to be with Joshua for his hip surgery and to be his caregiver until he was well enough to travel to Arkansas. Sadly while Joshua was in the hospital Rich had the ‘opportunity’ to see Joshua in level 8-10 pain. Something his mother and sister saw multitudes of times when he was in the hospital after his accident.
His hip surgery went well overall. We traveled to one of his favorite places in the snow, went to the motorcycle accident scene (he still does not remember anything) and had a good time overall in Oregon.
In March Joshua moved to Arkansas. He was recovering well and able to do many things, even though most of the time he was in higher levels of pain. Went kayaking a couple of times, spent time in the lake, help out around the house, fishing, spent much time volunteering at the church. But a few months later his right leg kept popping out. Just about everything stopped. Many times he was bedridden because of pain. A few weeks ago Joshua had another hip surgery. (Thankfully for the first time he did not have major pain while in the hospital.) So Joshua has to start the rehabilitation process all over again. The good news is it appears the surgery was very successful. Please pray he will have complete recovery and finally be able to live a ‘normal life’.

Chickens
When Joshua moved into our house he asked us if he could get some baby chicks. So we got six of them and good thing we did because about the time they started laying we had to euthanize two of ours and the others are laying regularly anymore. We started waterglassing our eggs so that we have eggs all winter.
Our Experience with Covid
Covid is certainly real and can be deadly, but since 2020 we have made the choice that we will take it serious, be cautious, but not live in fear.
In September Rich got Covid. Thankfully it was a mild case of it. But he did have some of the long term effects for awhile. Praise God those have gone away. Carmi and Joshua never got it, another praise.
Vacation Time
Carmi taking off work several times to drive Joshua to doctor appointments in Little Rock, Rich using his vacation time while in Oregon, and Joshua’s limited mobility the last several months because of pain, we have not had any vacation time. We were able to go to Branson, MO a couple of times.
The truth is compared to Seattle it is like having a vacation all the time.
We have not been able to get in all the fishing we would like to do, but was able to get some fish this year. I am not much of a fisherman but Carmi and Josh love fishing. Hoping this coming year I talk Joshua and Carmi out on our boat at least once a week.
Creating Futures
Rich is starting a new ministry here in Arkansas. He has a burden for all the smaller churches in Arkansas that have limited resources and thus limited in fulfilling the Gospel. He is going to start preaching, teaching, counseling, outreaches, etc as time allows. (He is still working full-time driving for a dental lab. Hopes to go part-time in a few months. Our plan is for Carmi to also go part-time in a few months.)
