Each day Preacher RichD shares some of the insights from his Daily Bible Reading. You will notice his insights line up with Scripture, not within the box of a certain denomination.
Same Language
At one point all of mankind spoke one language. Because of the unity of communication God Himself said anything mankind does can be accomplished, so God confused the language and scattered mankind. What a great example of the power of unity. This gives insight why the devil does all he can to create communication problems among Christians and married couples.
Genesis 11:1-8
Now all the earth used the same language and the same words. 6 And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they have started to do, and now nothing which they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth; and they stopped building the city.
Let Us
Notice vs 7 states Let Us. This is one of many passages that prove the concept of the Trinity. If there is an us there is more than one, yet there is only ONE GOD. The us based upon all of Scripture is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (We will see this as we study the Bible.)
Abram Obeys
God commands Abram to leave where he lives which means he also leaves all of his relatives, Abram obeys. Why would he not obey with all the promises God gives him. Yet we as Christians many times do not obey even with all the promises God gives us.
12 Now the Lord said to Abram,
“Go from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
2 And I will make you into a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing;
3 And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
4 So Abram went away as the Lord had spoken to him; and Lot went with him.
Abram Builds an Altar
Over and over again we will see men of God build altars unto God. Altars were places of worship. Sadly, we also see men who are called as leaders that will build altars to false gods. What ‘gods’ do we as Christians worship?
Genesis 12:7
And the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So, he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.
Abram Lies, but God Intervenes
As Abram and Sarai enter into a foreign land, Abram lies and calls Sarai his sister (She actually was his half sister: Genesis 20:12 Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife;) Abram told a half-truth out of fear, not trusting the Lord. But God still intervened on his behalf. There are times we do not walk in complete trust but God ours our desire to want to live a life of faith.
Genesis 12:13-17
13 Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well for me because of you, and that may live on account of you.” 14 Now it came about, when Abram entered Egypt, that the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 17 But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
Beatitudes
Notice the comparisons in regard to mindset and the blessing that will come.
Poor in spirit- kingdom of heaven, Mourn-comforted, Gentle-inherit the earth, Hunger and thirst for righteousness-be satisfied, Merciful-receive mercy, Pure in heart-see God, Peacemakers-called sons of God. Persecuted for the sake of righteousness-theirs is the kingdom of heaven. People insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you-reward in heaven is great.
(Matthew 5:1-11)
God Calls Us to be Salt
God calls us to be salt and notice the warning if we are not salt-trampled underfoot. Too many Christians avoid being salt because of fear of being attacked.
Matthew 5:13
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people.”
Light of the World
We are called to not be private in regard to our relationship with our Lord. We should have good works follow us as we live daily life.
Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Jesus Fulfills the Law
Jesus fulfills the law but He also says no one is to nullify the Law. Notice He says if anyone does so thy will be the least in the Kingdom. How many who call themselves are doing all they can to nullify the law. (Based upon the passages that follow the Law is speaking of the Ten Commandments. Which one do you think Christians try to nullify all the time?)
Matthew 5:17-19
17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Warning to the Self-Righteous
Matthew 5:20
“For I say to you that unless your righteousness far surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Anger
See Matthew 5:21-26
Notice Jesus takes the Commandment ‘Thou Shall Not Murder’ and does not nullify it but expands it to say that if you even have hate and anger towards a person you have committed murder and should be sent to hell. (Praise God for Jesus being our Advocate if we accept Him as a Savior.) BTW, this passage makes it clear that it only takes having anger for a lost person to go to hell.
Prayer for Protection
See Psalm 5
Cry out to God, He will hear your voice. He will bring justice. Ask God to lead you to righteousness in the midst of your troubles instead of becoming like your enemies. Rejoice in the Lord knowing He blesses those who walk in righteousness.
Warning to Those Who Reject Godly Counsel
See Proverbs 1:25-28
Those who reject the counsel of wisdom will not have wisdom in the time of distress. They will try obtain but it will not be there because they hated the counsel, their minds will be blinded. This explains why individuals who reject godly counsel end up doing the very thing they were told not to do.
